However , today people especially young people are becoming addicted to using the mobile phone .They can not stay away from their phones , even for a minute . Perhaps , because of the benefits of the mobile phones , most people do not realize lots of negative effects that the mobile phone has brought to us .Using mobile phones too much not only affects our health seriously but also causes some personal problems and limiting communication face to face .

In the high-tech world , the mobile phones are equiped with all necessary funtions. People can chat together for hours whenever they have time . They talk together from hour to hour , from day to day. As a result, using mobile phone for a long time affects our health. Do you know how dangerous  the wave from the  cell phone is for our brain? The waves from cell phone are very harmful to our physical body such as our heart and brain . A recent study tells that our brain is seriously damaged when using mobile phone too much.Have you ever experienced  the headache with talking on the cell phone for a long time? It is the wave from the mobile phone that causes the headache . Due to the danger of the cell phone wave to our brain , using phones too much can cause a poor memory . Besides, the wave of cell phones is very strong so it can cause heart disease if we keep cell phone near our body , especially under the pillow while sleeping. With many functions of  the cell phone , the young can listen to music anytime thay want . By using a headphone , people can enjoy some video, some music all time without annoying anyone . However, one effect of listening by earphones for a long time is that it damages our ear, even it can cause deaf .Moreover, the excessive use of cell phones causes teens and young adults to experience restlessness and it can make them feel difficult to fall asleep. It is an obvious fact that using cell phones too much  can affect our brain , cause sleep loss and damage our ears .

Our life is becoming more and more convenient and the mobile phone has become an indispensable and inseperable object . People use mobile phones in every place , every time to manage their business . They talk on the cell phone when working , even when they are on the road. A lot of drivers listen to cellphone conversations while they are driving on the road . Consequently, they can cause dangerous accidents for other drivers on the road . Getting caught up in a conservation on a cell phone can lead to the loss of  focusing and highly distracted driving .Furthermore, it is generally observed that drivers using cell phones often  forget to give proper signals, disobey street signs and tend to cut lanes without warning .It is such a careless driving that results in many crashes and fatalities every day. Therefore, our government should give the law to ban drivers from using mobile phones while driving . Besides , an  another result of using phones too much is the expenses for cell phone cards every month . We often spend a lot of money using mobile phone. For example , if you talk to your friends a lot on cell phone , it can spend about 50 thousands dong every week so it costs you 200 thousands dong for a month . Not only the expenses for cell phone cards , sometimes using phones in a public places also causes some problems . We can see some rude people who speak loudly in public places , particularly in libraries, trains and theatres , which disturbs other people a lot. As another example, the camera of mobile phones sometimes disturbs a person 's privacy. Some people use the bluetooth and the camera in a bad purpose . For example , they sneakily take  photos of some girls in the public places such as swimming pool or spa and spread those photos to the internet. In short, using mobile phone can cause some personal problem like accidents on the road , money for cell phone cards and some trouble in public places.

Mobile phone has become crucial part of our life . One of the most important functions of the phone is that it helps the communication become easier and quicker.  However it also causes a lot of problem in communicating. Firstly, cell phone use has effects on the direct human to human interraction.Talking on the cell phones are gradually replacing the communication face to face between people. There was a time when the purpose of a telephone was to convey the important messages and not many people owned telephones .Thus, to talk together about something, they often met directly. Today owning a cell phone is held as a neceesity and anyone including children have their cell phone . Therefore ,the communication face to face between people is limited.Nowadays parents can be at the work place to talk to their children, to remind them of studying at school . Friends like chatting together for hours by mobile phone so they do not have anything to tell together when meeting at school. It seems that using cell phones too much destroys the pleasure of direct interaction. Another effect in communicating by mobile phone is misunderstanding between people . Always , people send messages to ask for information or congratulate someone...And the problem is that sometimes they forget to type the punctuation marks or they misspell , which makes the receiver misunderstand . More seriously, this can destroy the relationship between them. Therefore, to avoid some problem in communicating by cell phone, people should be careful in using it.

Mobile phone is realy necessary for our life because of many convenient functions of it . However, sometimes mobile phone can cause us many problem. The adventages or disadvantages of using mobile phones depend on the way how we can use it in right ways or in wrong ways.

The cell phone would be a great thing if we used it in the right way. We can communicate with people who are far from us and give them our news. We can use it in an emergency or just to call somebody we want to talk with. It is useful when we need information. Using it, for example, we can avoid spending a lot of time in the bank or other places.

Unfortunately most of us don't use it in the right way because we talk with our friends for hours and hours., and that's something we can do better if we have a coffee together. The use of the cell phone in this way is dangerous for the development of good socialization. We need to think twice about how we are using cell phones.

JUNKFOOD

Eating junk food can have a significant impact on one's health. Though many people enjoy eating junk food and think it tastes great, the health consequences can be serious, and can range from everything to low energy levels to weight gain and illness. The term "junk food" encompasses a fairly broad category of food, but it typically refers to foods that are relatively high in caloric content, but low in nutritional value.

Junk food is often high in sugar, salt, white flour, and fat, particularly saturated fat. It is often heavily processed and prepackaged, making it easy to prepare and consume. A few examples of foods often considered to be junk food include fast food, sweets such as ice cream, candy, donuts, and prepackaged treats, soda, and potato chips, among many others. Most people have no trouble identifying junk food; it is when they want to stop eating junk food that the trouble starts.

The first effect of eating junk food is its impact on energy levels. Many people skip breakfast or other meals throughout the day, choosing instead to grab a quick snack or a soft drink. The junk food causes energy levels to spike, which people like, but then energy levels will quickly plummet, sending one back into the kitchen for another quick snack. In addition, junk food can cause moodiness, and make it difficult to get enough sleep at night, so energy levels are never restored to normal.

Another one of the most obvious effects from eating junk food is weight gain. People who eat a lot of junk food tend to gain weight quickly, which can lead to obesity over time; this extra weight then has an impact on the health of the rest of the body. It can raise cholesterol and blood pressure, contributing to heart disease. In addition, eating junk food can cause one to develop insulin resistance, which is one of the risk factors for diabetes; this is a particular concern in children.

When the body does not get proper nutrition, it can become difficult to concentrate. It can also cause depression. Keep all of these health effects of junk food in mind before eating anything; a healthy diet can lead to greater energy levels, improved mood and concentration ability, weight loss, and decreased risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. Though junk food may be easy and fast, its health impacts are too great to ignore.

SHOULDN'T USE CELLPHONE IN PUBLIC

When I found out that July is considered National Cell Phone Courtesy Month, I couldn't help but throw my two cents into the mix. When I was a teenager, we didn't have cell phones. We had to get by with using pay phones. There was also a set of phone rules in our home. No one was allowed to be on the phone during dinner, after 9 p.m. or before 7 a.m. unless it was a life or death emergency. That was just how things were and everyone accepted them. I miss those days in some respects because it seems that when it comes to cell phone usage, some folks have forgotten common sense. People use them everywhere without regard for others. In my opinion, there are certain places that a cell phone should not be used. Here's a quick rundown on five of them:

Public Restrooms

One day I was out shopping with my sister and we stopped at the public restroom located inside the mall. Lo and behold, there was a woman sitting inside one of the bathroom stalls just talking away on her cell phone as if she was the only person in the room. During the course of her overly loud conversation, she proceeded to describe in great detail what bodily functions she was completing in the process of taking the call.

My first thought was, "why on earth would someone want to have a telephone conversation while sitting on the toilet?" My second thought was, "who, other than a doctor, would want to hear such details about a person's bathroom activity?" I was both mystified and mortified by the whole experience. Not only did the person she was speaking to get to hear her "tales from the toilet", a good 10 other women using the same restroom got to hear it as well. Personally, I think that the woman's behavior that day should have been classified as the epitome of rudeness.

Check-Out Counters

A check-out counter is another place where cell phone use should be restricted. I hate it when I am standing in line at a store and there is a person in line with me talking loudly on a cell phone. I suspect that the cashiers hate it as well. I have even witnessed cell phone users hold up the line and ignore the cashier while they continue on with their conversation. In my opinion, if a cell phone user absolutely has to take a call, they should do so quietly and without inconveniencing the cashier or the other people standing in line.

Restaurants

Call me old fashioned, but I believe that cell phones should not be used while dining out. Of course, I was raised with the strictly enforced, "no phone calls during dinner" rule, so that could be why seeing such behavior makes me cringe. Personally, I think that my parents were right to ban telephone conversations during dinner.

Libraries

If you ask me, a library is also no place for a cell phone. After all, libraries are places that were designed for reading, research and reflection not chatting it up on the phone. If a person wants to use a phone while at the library, they should excuse themselves and go outside to make the call. They should also keep their ringer on vibrate when they are inside the library so as not to disturb the other patrons.

Hospitals

In my opinion, hospitals are another place that people should avoid using cell phones. Part of the reason why is that a cell phone's signal has been known to interfere with certain pieces of hospital equipment including ventilators and dialysis machines. Furthermore, there have also been studies done that indicate that cell phones can harbor germs and distract the medical staff. Personally, I think that if a person wants to use a cell phone in a hospital setting, they should have to do so in a non-patient area. That goes for staff and visitors alike.

Should inconsiderate people use cell phones in public?

You know the people I’m talking about, the ones who “scream” on their phone so the entire general population can hear their conversation.

At our local post office, there is one service person who will refuse to wait on a customer if they’re talking on their cell phone. He will not say a word until the person gets off their phone while they’re standing at his window waiting for him to wait on them. They’re usually so caught up in their phone conversation they do manage to walk up to his window when he calls “next” but then they’re not aware of why he’s not asking them how he can help them. It’s common courtesy to deal one on one with the person who is servicing you. Is the phone conversation such an important one it can’t wait until you’re done doing your business? If so, then you shouldn’t be standing in line!

How about a recent trip to Barnes & Noble where I’m standing in line and a woman about my age or a bit older, is literally standing on top of me (which is her first mistake, she’s in MY personal space, breathing down my neck– a simple elbow out on my side will alleviate that problem– jab to her). Her phone rings and she proceeds to answer and is now YELLING in my ear to someone on the phone who apparently couldn’t have waited the 5 minutes it would’ve taken her to get out of B&N. She continues to scream in my ear…So, I make a few loud comments (not so nice ones but won’t cuss her out since there are little kids in line too) but I’m not looking AT her so she’s totally oblivious that I’m talking ABOUT her. She tells the person on the phone that “the person in front of me is so rude, must be having a bad day”

at that point I turn and now she’s right on top of me again, the first elbow didn’t make a lasting impression apparently…I am now in her face saying “YOU are the reason, YOU are the one I’m talking about idiot!!!!!!! You’re standing up my butt, screaming on the phone…like anyone in line here cares about your phone conversation, that’s RUDE RUDE RUDE”. She keeps talking on the phone with this look of astonishment and cluelessness, and I’m still telling her how rude that is and inconsiderate to the cashiers there, the people in line and to just hang up and call the other idiot back in a few minutes when she’s out of here. She wants to argue the fact that she’s not bothering anyone. Meanwhile people behind her in line are shaking their head in agreement and saying that she’s rude and just needs to hang up the phone already. The woman was still oblivious to the fact she was doing anything wrong….what happened to the day when we had those silly olive green rotary dial phones with the long curly cord??!! LOL and I’m not “that” old either but people like her should not have cell phones, she should stick to that olive green rotary!! Meanwhile once I get to register, the cashier thanks me!

So, my point is this…when in public, whether it be in B&N, the post office, the bank, a restaurant…nobody wants to hear your worthless bs conversation you insist on having on your cell phone while you interrupt everyone else’s space. It’s one thing to talk quietly on your phone which is totally acceptable but c’mon quit the screaming and talking loudly so everyone can hear…nobody cares about your conversation!

HOMESCHOOLING

As of 2007, around 2 million children were home schooled, increasing by almost 75 percent since 1999, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. White students outnumbered every other racial group, representing almost 80 percent of home-schooled students, and households with two parents made up almost 90 percent of those home schooled.

Main Causes

Teaching religion and providing moral structure is the most common reason cited for homeschooling children, followed by a need to provide a safer learning environment, devoid of drugs, negative influences and violence. Parents poled by the National Center for Education Statistics also listed dissatisfaction with academic standards in the public school system, family time, money and the school's distance away from the home a primary concern, creating a desire for homeschooling. A small percentage of parents expressed a need to provide an alternative education structure not found in the public school system.

Special Needs

Parents with children who have special needs or learning disabilities represent the next group of those home schooled, which include behavior problems or inadequacies that prevent the child from learning or coexisting with other classmates. This group is smaller, however, as these children usually require qualified professionals to address their specific needs.

Positive Effects

Students learn in an intimate one-on-one learning environment, as opposed to the large public school classrooms, and benefit from a curriculum that better fits their needs, learning capabilities and interests, promoting the freedom to explore different subjects in greater depth than a public school adhering to strict standards. Parents can also provide more hands-on opportunities due to a lack of restriction, such as visiting other countries to get a better understanding of that country's history. By controlling the curriculum and pacing, parents can inject more college-level work earlier on in a students learning career. This may allow home-schooled students to enter college earlier than if they followed the normal education track set forth by the government.

Negative Effects

Children lose social interaction provided in public school settings. In most schools, there is a diverse racial population, which gives children the opportunity to learn about other ethnic groups and how to communicate with their peers. A dependency on parents or tutors might crop up in a child not subjected to the rigors of having to perform in a competitive learning environment. As the pace of learning can speed up, it can also slow down, causing a student to fall behind the education levels of their peers in the public school system. Students may also lack routine, because learning hours and tasks can be flexible in a home setting.

Are parents really helping their children by teaching them at home?

In most countries in the world, governments require children to attend schools in which trained teachers are responsible for educating the children using an approved curriculum. However a significant number of parents believe that it is much better for their children to be educated at home by the people who know them and their needs best. This essay will examine the question of home schooling and discuss which the best option for the child is

An increasing number of parents are deciding that home schooling is the best option for their children. They are unhappy with the quality or depth of education offered in the schools, or have other reasons why they feel that traditional schools are not suitable for their children. One reason is social factors. Parents worry that their children will suffer from bullying or will be forced into antisocial behavior by peer pressure. They believe that the good behavior they have taught the child will be lost in school. Another reason is concern over the quality of schooling available. Schools frequently have large classes. They are often under-funded, and staffed by teachers without sufficient knowledge of their subjects. Subjects such as the family’s religion or language may not even be available in the school. Other parents may disagree with the aims of the school curriculum, preferring for academic, social or cultural reasons to keep their children separate. Finally, some children with special needs may need particular parental care.

However, there are many arguments in favor of sending children to conventional schools. The first is that the children will be exposed to other children. These children may represent either a cross-section of society or a narrow group, but in either case the children will interact with each other and develop social skills. A second point is that the children will learn to function outside the family. They will not be dependent on their parents for their educational, emotional and social needs. A third point is that the children will find it easier to integrate when they finish school, as they eventually will, when they start work or college.

Overall, while many parents work hard to teach their children at home, conventional schools are still the right choice for most children. Schools are not perfect, but they seem to be a proven way of preparing our children for the real world.

ONLY AN CHILD

The Disadvantages:

As far as disadvantages go, the "Little Emperor Syndrome" comes to mind. For those unfamiliar with the term, "Little Emperor Syndrome" refers to the Chinese situation involving parents and their single child. Of course, all of you would be aware of China's one-child policy. Little Emperor Syndrome is an unintended consequence of that policy. This is a situation in which the parents lavish their love, attention, resources on this one child of theirs, and as a result, the child becomes spoilt and, well, behaves like a "Little Emperor." This sort of excessive attention and care can prove detrimental in the long term for the child. The child gets used to having everything done, managed, taken care of - by their parents. When they have to live in the real world and face real problems, they might not be able to cope with it. They may lack self-confidence to go out in the world and get things done for themselves. They might feel lost outside of the cocoon that their parents created for them. This of course need not always be the case and can be overcome by good parenting.

Perhaps the most apparent disadvantage of being an only child is the feeling of loneliness - not having a sibling to play with regularly and to be able to share your thoughts and memories with. When you parents are no longer around, not having a sibling to talk about things with or look up to for any kind of help or support can be quite a disadvantage. Also, when you parents get older, being an only child, you would have to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of your parents on your own, which might be overwhelming.

As an only child, you may also face an immense pressure put on you by your parents; for example, to keep the family name going or to do well in your academics. As an only child, you would also be watched with an eagle eye by your parents and this may be quite suffocating and stressful for you. If you had siblings, the pressure wouldn't be as much and you may perhaps be able to lead a more stress-free life. This again would be a highly subjective experience. There may be many who may feel no stress at all and are able to take this pressure, real or perceived, within their stride.

My Experience of Not Being the Only Child in my Family

So, there are advantages and disadvantages to being an only child. However, how each child turns out - really depends on how the child has been brought up, among other factors.

Personally, I always wished I was the only child in my family. Perhaps, it is not a nice thing to say, but that's how I fee genuinely! You know, the grass always seems greener on the other side. In my specific situation, the age gap between me and my brother was just 3 years, and therefore, there was a lot of rivalry and acrimony between us - all through childhood - it affected me quite a bit, not the usual childhood fights, which you grow out of. Being the eldest in my family, I always felt that I was not treated fairly when it came to certain situations, especially conflict situations. I was always expected to be magnanimous and largehearted and forgive and forget - whereas my younger brother was doted on and shielded. I still feel that to be the case to this day. We do get along much better now, but it isn't your usual loving relationship - more formal than familial and loving.

My mom still dotes on my little brother to no end, which is good, but she doesn't see me the same way, which is what I regret and bemoan. I've never quite understood this difference. At times, I think to myself that this is all my imagination - that I am just seeing things that aren't there! That there is really no discrimination so to speak. But, then again, there is a difference, you know what I mean? Perhaps, a lot of you would have no clue about what I am talking about. Then again, there may be a lot of you who know exactly what I am talking about, so there you have it - each individual would have a very unique experience and a very unique answer to whether being an only child is an advantage or disadvantage.

I am sure, there would be lots of single, lonely people out there, who were the only child in their families, who would have wished they had a brother or sister growing up!! There is no real definitive answer to this question, as the responses to this question would be highly subjective and varied based on each person's own unique personal experience. Would love to hear your own personal experiences on being an only child or being a child with siblings growing up. Do feel free to share your personal experiences!
